- HUMAN EYES DIARY -

Hi, blogs! Continuing my previous article about my trip with my mom, in this article I'd like to share our experiences in Huangshan where was the next destination to travel around after Shanghai. Actually, Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) was our main destination while and Shanghai was just the transit city to get there (Shanghai was nice too! Check my previous post in Shanghai to know about it). It happened because my mom and I kept wondering the real of Yellow Mountain while we just admired a good painting of it on the wall.  That's why we decided to go there!

We can enjoy Yellow Mountain in various ways in all of the seasons. The local people say, the Yellow Mountain has different looks, experiences, and feeling when we go there at different times. It always offers something different every time we go back there. Spring will offer clear skies and fog at the same time. Summer will offer clear skies, the green trees, and the vivid yellow mountain. Fall will offer the red-orange trees which bringing the warmness. Winter will offer the snow, trees are filled with the snowflakes, and sea of the clouds! Wuuuu! Get interested in the words "sea of clouds" which only happen in the winter season, made me no doubt to go on last January! Yesss!!

Wait... There's snow on there??

As the tropical person which always lives underneath the heat of the sun, travel to the subtropical country in the winter season is uneasy, guys! We should prepare many things, from clothes, outwears, shoes, our belongings, and everything we need to adapt! Moreover, I traveled with my mom who is the elder here! Different cities, different temperatures! In Shanghai, it was 11 degrees Celcius and in Huangshan district, it was 3 degrees Celcius! Could you imagine how's the temperature on the top of Yellow Mountain?? That's no joke!

Okay, cut the introduction! So, how to get to Yellow Mountain from Shanghai?

Shanghai is one of the biggest city which has good development of transportation that become the main transit city in China.
- We can take the high-speed train (bullet train) for 3-4 hours, 190-250 CNY
- We can take the economy train for 5 hours, 135-150 CNY
- We can take the bus for 6 hours, 135- 50 CNY
- We can take the flight for 1,5 hours, 250-750 CNY

As a foreigner, I'd like to recommend the bullet train. Besides we can get the new experience for taking the China speed train, the location of the station is nearby the Shanghai tourism area which eases us to get there and arrange our tight schedule in China. It's better to stay at Tunxi District before going to the Yellow Mountain, the trip takes time.

The best time to visit Huangshan?

When your heart is ready! Lol! I'm just kidding! As I mentioned above, it depends on what would you like to see and feel? Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter? What I can make sure is don't visit the Yellow Mountain on Friday and Saturday, guys! Because the hotels were located on the top of the mountain are so pricey at the weekend! The price could be double! Yes, of course, you should stay at the top of the mountain! It's so amazing!

What we should bring as a foreigner?

You just can carry one backpack because the cable car won't allow any heavy carrier or big luggage. What you should bring? The passport, money, one set of clothes ( in condition, we already wear the clothes and the outerwear), drinking bottle (this is so important, you will know why...), hat, gloves, snacks. I will explain why those things are important to bring in the next article while I go to Yellow Mountain. :))

Should we ask the local guide?

As a foreigner, yes you should! The area is so big! Moreover, I traveled with my mom, I need more information about this area and the most important is safety! I booked the service of a local guide on www.hikehuangshan.com who works under the Yellow Mountain management. My local guide's name is Thomas, he speaks English, kind, on-time, gives an affordable price, and has a high spirit to take us to see the beauty of the Yellow Mountain!

How to book the high-speed train ticket?

You can buy it on www.trip.com , a trusted website! I didn't have any endorsement here, I just share and give the good testimony who is deserving! Click on that website, buy the tickets by your itinerary. I suggest buying the morning speed train so you can stroll around the Tunxi District first before going to the Yellow Mountain. Tunxi District has the old street which has the architecture of the Song Dynasty.

Okay, already know what you need? Let's go!

Shanghai Hongqiao Station

After entering the station and showing up our passport, we went upstairs to the information desk and exchanged our booking number from trip.com into the real tickets to get on the speed train. The process was easy, just enclosed the passport and done! It's easy too if we want to change the time schedule, just said the time we want to change, then it will be processed. And... Due to the tight itinerary in Yellow Mountain then I change my returning ticket's time from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m... There's no need for any additional fee if the price is still the same. (Yeah, it was still the same as when I bought it in Jakarta.) So convenient for the foreigner!

It means Coach 2 and Seats 06 B, the words on the right of the ticket.

See the gate number on the board so we wouldn't get lost! Lol!

Have our Bachang before departed.
This is so delicious, especially the egg yolk! Nom!

The Train!

In the bullet train!

The bullet train arrives on time so it won't wait for the passenger who arrives lately. The system for entering the speed train is already facilitated with good and fast device machines. To enter, we must scan the ticket then the door would open. Then we went down to the train by the fast escalator and we arrived! The fast system so there are no reasons to be late. Late then bye! As what I have seen, the train just stopped for around 5-10 minutes. Fast guys fast! :))

It allows to bring big luggage and many belongings because the seat is so spacious, moreover there's a cabin too! But be careful for your belonging especially on the cabin, many passengers was getting down and getting to the train in a quick time. There's a possibility for the confused luggage, lost the thing, or maybe lost the luggage. So, be careful!

It allows to eat and drink in the train. Even it provided the hot water to make some instant noodle or maybe a cup of coffee. But, don't forget to keep the area clean! It has the electric socket for charging our devices. And... Yes, it was facilitated with the air conditioner too!

That's why I think, take the bullet train is the best choice to go to Huangshan. Besides of the affordable price, we had a great new experiences trips by train. My mom and I enjoyed the trip, even we didn't feel it was a long long long journey!

Hmmm.... Where would the train arrived?

My mom and I would arrive at Huangshan North Station and our tour driver would pick up us from the station to our hotel in Tunxi District! Then, on the next day we would go to the Yellow Mountain!!

Thank you for reading, guys! Have a hard time to choose the best way or confused about China or want to ask something about this trip? Just leave the comment on the comment's box below or it will be okay too if you just say 'Hi!" :))

See ya in the next article, in Tunxi District! Wuuuuuu!

"They save their history carefully and show their history beautifully to us.
They know how to appreciate their history which nothing else themselves.
They know how to appreciate their life
by understanding the past and move forward to the future."

Traveling to somewhere new that I've never been and never known before becomes my interest and pleasure! A pleasure to know their history, culture, food, architecture, and themselves which means new experiences. Must visit their museum is my obsession and habit while I travel to the new place, region, or country. After knowing that, I felt my trip was more meaningful and suddenly I knew what I should do, Hmm... like writing the article about that like this! Hihihi. So, what's inside of Shanghai History Museum? Let's go!

As we were entering the museum, we were welcomed by the documentary film of Shanghai, from the old to the modern Shanghai on that big screen. Mesmerized and speechless for a while after watched it. The first thought that came into my mind was, "Wow. China! Such as big population since the ancient age, I wondered maybe my ancestor was from there. Maybe."

On the first floor, there has gallery which exhibits the historical things in accordance with the particular events. When my mom and I visited there, the gallery theme was commemorated Soong QingLing, a woman who had a significant role in China revolution. Honestly, I didn't know her but I learned to get to know about her from here, who is her.

Soong QingLing with our former president, Soekarno.

There had many photos which were a trace of her activities as an activist in China but unfortunately for me, the description was in Hanyu so I couldn't understand it well. I just could guess it from the photos and use my little skill of Mandarin to translate the 'well-known' words, such as wo, ni, Shanghai, yue, ri. :') I guess I should learn Mandarin!

On the second floor, there is an Ancient Shanghai gallery which exhibits cultural things such as relic from the ancient civilization in Shanghai. The exhibition is so interesting! How they display it from the century to century is wonderful and the information of those things could be understandable to us. Yes, everything on this floor is described with Mandarin and English, hehe!

To be honest, I'm so in love with those ancient jade, especially Jade Yun Axe. It's so beautiful and wonderful, isn't it? Wondering how they found the rock and made it to something like this. So thrilling!

Even we were in ancient Shanghai exhibition but this place was not ancient at all. Even those were the ancient relics but they displayed it with modernity. They injected a sophisticated technology to support and provide the information that we need. They provided standing tablets to find information easily in a digital way, cool! Yeah, this is how we use the technology for and how the modern museum should.

These words made me remind...
Don't be stuck with the current problems. Be creative and solve the problems
So we can live happily and peacefully

Move to the third floor where the civilization also moves forward.

My mom was listening to the old music by Chinese composer
It's quite addicting actually!

Shanghai Memo Walls
We could write anything on the memo and stick it to the wall.
It's like a message or wishes from us to this city.

Moves to the fourth floor where the activist moved forward to the revolution. Was born in 1993, I've never experienced how the revolution was even it happened in my country too, Indonesia in 1998. It was a world crisis back then but I was too young to feel and remember that event. The elder said it's tense and terrifying but it's a revolution. The revolution that we couldn't avoid. Hungry but couldn't go out. Wanted to cry loudly but couldn't make noise inside. Tired but must keep awake. Those feelings... Those feelings, I felt it while I was entering this floor. The news, arts, and other forms of revolutionary acts have been expressed and was exhibited here right now. It made me had goosebumps!

Many questions approached inside my mind after visiting this floor,
"Should a change happen?" They said we change for the better. "What is better then?" "When will 'the better' be enough to say it's better now?"

H.U.M.A.N.

Wuahhhh. My mom and I had a good time here! We knew 'some' things and learned new things. To explore and have some knowledge about civilization in this part of worlds you can visit here and it's free, guys! It's near Nanjing area and easy to get here. Take the city sightseeing bus because this museum is on the red and green route or you can have some walks from Starbucks Reserve to here, it just took about 10-15 minutes! Make your choice and see the location below!

Thanks for reading this article! After here, I will visit Yellow Mountain in the Huangshan area! I always dream to visit there with my mom! In the next article, I will share how to get Huangshan from Shanghai by bullet train as the foreigner and the preparation to hike Yellow Mountain, especially with the elder! See ya!

"The bean coffee sounded turururururururu while going up and down through the copper pipes above my head. From raw to fresh brew coffee has served. Hmm... Already have your coffee today?"

I am the one who enjoys drinking coffee in many ways, from the manual coffee brew, macchiato, cappuccino, cafe latte, and so on. Since I've fallen to architecture, a cup of coffee was a part of my life. Procaffeinating is the daily habit that I'd love to do every morning. Or... Maybe the Procaffeinating is trending right now! Hang out while drinking coffee is a common activity that people do, that's why there are so many coffee shops right now especially in Jakarta. Starbucks is one of the biggest brands which dominate many areas. I love Starbucks. Their coffee is good and affordable enough to hang out with my friends. I used to say "Bucks yuk" to my friends when I wanted to have a chit-chat with them. Besides that, the near and reachable location made Starbucks is my best option to hang out! How many Starbucks's outlets in your area? Me? Many...

Heard that Starbucks would open the biggest Starbucks Reserve Roastery in the world at Shanghai, made this place as my top bucket list while exploring Shanghai. Honestly, it's hard to find this place. Remembered, mostly China has translated western brands spelling into Mandarin and almost all local people only know the Mandarin one. Like... Mcdonald in Mandarin is Maidanglao, KFC is Kendenji, Starbucks is Xingbake, and so on. And... I couldn't just say Xingbake to get here because there were many Starbucks outlets too in Shanghai! What should I say then?

I've searched the news and its location before, it's been written that Starbucks Reserve Roastery located inside of the Shopping mall. I even didn't know the name of the shopping mall. There were a few shopping malls in Nanjing area and a few of that have a Starbucks too, so which one? I've got lost in one of the shopping malls and thought that Starbucks was the right one, but I'm wrong! :') And... I couldn't just search it too on google maps, too many! Which one? It didn't spell any Reserve Roastery, only Starbucks.

Finally, I decided to ask Starbucks's staff in one of their outlets. Fortunately, they could understand English and speak English! Thanks, God! After getting in conversation in English, I got the right address! Here we go, Shimen Er Lu! Yes, the address is Shimen Er Lu!

Yeay, finally My mom and I found it!

Wondering why it's the biggest Starbucks in the world (for now). Yeah, it's big of course! Big enough to put the big sophisticated coffee roasting machine and make the attraction from processing and preparation of the fresh a cup of coffee to the customers. Big enough to have its own kitchen that shows a fresh bake their bread and cakes. Big enough to display its original merchandises from the drinkware, t-shirt, notes, and etc.. Teavana in here has many variants not like as the other Starbuck's outlets and the serving is different as usual too!

In here, they showed us how the fresh raw bean coffees were being processed from raw, roasting, grinding until it's been serving to our table. The fresh concept that approached us. The process was not A to A or Apple to Apple, they made it interesting and become the attraction for us while visiting here. New way and experience for enjoying the cup of coffee!

Remembered if they wanted to roast new coffee beans ex. like from Costa Rica, the staffs would come out, do some little moves, and applause. Then, the superb cool board names would start changing and showing us the coffee's information. You know what, it's like coding the alphabets and it's so cool! After that, the raw beans would enter the pipe and be processed. I thought that my eyes wouldn't be wrong, something interesting! I just saw the raw beans which had pale color has changed into the brown one after entering the pipe. Was that a super quick roasting machine? Or my eyes were wrong? After that, the beans were going to the big roasting machine through the copper pipes on plafond above us and made some sounds "turururururuuru", showing how fast the beans were going. Somehow it's so exciting! Lol! After roasting, the fresh beans were going to the transparent storages which were near the baristas. Then the baristas readied to grinding and brew freshly to us. No wonder the aroma of coffee was so strong back then, love it!

When I kept checking my eyes, those were the brown coffee, right?

The superb cool board name machine

The copper pipes

New menu! Or... I could say I just could enjoy it here! I ordered Smoked Butterscotch Latte for 52 Yuan. The taste was so different from the other coffee that I've been tried. That was my second favorite coffee after Caramel Macchiato! So unique! That beef mozzarella pizza had a common taste for me. Good but that's it! It's quite pricey, I've bought it for around 75 Yuan. Yeah, the food and beverages' price in here quite pricy than the other outlets maybe because they served those special menus. Pricey but worthy for me, new experience that you should try too! Even my mom loves it too!

My mom tried Peach Tea from Teavana but served with the nitrogen! Wuuuu!
It looked like a beer and the flavor was similar too like a  Peach beer!
Peach tea for 49 Yuan
Bonus: It's quite interesting to see how they served this! Lol!

It's around here, guys!

Okay, guys! Thanks for reading this article! Make sure to not get lost while finding Starbucks Reserve Roastery like me. Lol! In the next article, I will write about the Shanghai History Museum where I visited. The location is nearby Shanghai Starbucks Roastery!

" The silent witnesses of the Shanghai's civilization. From the changing times, the journeys, until the RED flag with the five stars arisen in those Classical European buildings. The new history was born."

It's raining outside when I'm writing this post today.

Raining... It always makes me remember everything in Shanghai. In January, the rain kept pouring lightly from the first time when I arrived in China until I went back to Jakarta. My mom and I kept opening our blue and orange umbrellas, holding hands while facing out the cold wind, and feeling cold of course! Lol! Despite that, the rain was pouring so beautifully. It was like snow but it was water when we touched.

Every day in Shanghai, my mom and I just kept checking the current weather in the phone, checking how much cold was, and what place we should visit while face out the wind and rain. Lol! And... Today destination is... The Bund!

The picture above was the old picture of Shanghai which I've seen similarly at Old Shanghai Tea House. History says there had trading activities through the Huangpu river back then. China lost the first Opium War and the Western powers demanded trading rights and they were granted settlements or concessions. Soon wharves and trading houses were set up along the river. A triumph for the British who came to dominate the area. That's why... The architecture style was dominated by the neo-classical buildings.

After sawing the old picture of Shanghai it reminded me to Sunda Kelapa in Jakarta. The looks and the history were similar from what I've read and learnt from the school (I wasn't born yet), from Western, Japanese, World War II, to Independence. The colonization, everything was impacted. And, I just could say and smirk 'Woah, how?'

Okay... Back to the bund. :)) The Bund revitalization began in 1986 with a new promenade by the Dutch Architect Paulus Snoeren. The bund is the result of thawing economic policy of People's Republic of China in 1970s and 1980s. Besides of closing the trading activities in this area, the promenade wall is also for restrain the water from the river and to prevent the water flood the city cause by typhoon. Moreover, this area is good to take some photos and selfie with the riverscape, streetscape, cityscape, and the landmark of Shanghai! Wuuuuu! Good idea!

I couldn't... I couldn't... They Could...
They could run in this cold wind and light raining! :')

My mom and Shanghai's Landmark, Oriental Pearl Tower
and the fog weren't embarrassed enough to join the picture :')

The Bund is one of the famous attractions while visit Shanghai. Maybe I can say, the Bund is a must place to visit while in Shanghai! To get here it's quite easy because the government already provide many nice facilities and transportation. From taxi, Shanghai Metro, and City sightseeing bus. Take Shanghai Metro line 2 to get here directly and the subway station is located exactly in the Bund area. Take the red line or blue line of city sightseeing bus for 100 yuan. Take the taxi to prevent mind and heart confuse where is it. Actually, it's easy to get here. Just say Zhongshan road or Zhongshan Lu with the right accent of course, guys! :)

I found something interesting here that maybe can be implemented in Indonesia zebra crossing. Similar to the others zebra crossing but it has a sign to cross (green) for seconds and not cross (red) with camera in front of us. At least we know, we just couldn't disobey this because what we did would be recorded by that thing. It's already be a controller for good! Good idea to prevent the car accident and as a proof for any traffic cases. Also, the form is slim, waterproof, and nice to see along the street.

There's a famous road where is located near the Bund, Nanjing road. The road is famous as a shopping street which sells anything that we need from fashion, home appliances, food and beverages, and etc. Also, from high-branded things to no-branded things or market things. Besides of shopping, along with street or we could still the neo-classical, post-modernism, and modern buildings which forming Shanghai cityscape. Moreover, there are many interesting tourism place and attractions near here too! Such as Jing' an temple, Shanghai museum, Shanghai history museum, Starbucks reserve roastery, and many so on. I can say, Nanjing road is a strategic meeting point to visit many tourism place in Shanghai and also it has 2 subway station in this area which connected to there. So convenient! My mom and I got here from the Bund by walk just for 5 minutes and from there it's all up to our legs where we wanted to go.

The Bund Location, click the image for further information.

The next destination where My mom and I went after Nanjing road is... Starbucks Roastery (the biggest Starbucks Roastery in the world for now) and Shanghai History Museum (the 4.5 star rates museum by tourists). It's near from here, guys!

I'll write about Starbucks Roastery, how to get there, what's inside, and what's the difference with the others Starbucks outlet! See ya in the next article! Before of all, Thanks for reading my article and I'd be appreciate and happy if we can connect by your comments, or maybe you just can say Hi to me! :))

See ya in the next article, still in Shanghai!
A cup of coffee at Shanghai Starbucks Roastery would warm the day!
